here’s something different about testing a scent for the first time.
It’s not about whether it sounds good on paper or fits a theme—it’s about what it becomes once it’s actually burning in a space. How it shifts. How it behaves. How it feels when it’s no longer just an idea, but something real and living in a room.
This wisteria-inspired candle is still in its testing stage.
Not everything makes it past this point.
The Testing Process
When I test a candle, I’m not just looking at fragrance. I’m paying attention to how everything comes together over time.
How the wax melts.
How evenly it burns.
How the scent carries through a space.
Some scents are immediate. They announce themselves the moment the wick is lit. Others are quieter—they unfold slowly, layer by layer.
Wisteria, in this case, is the second kind.
First Impressions
Right away, this scent is softer than I expected.
It doesn’t feel heavy or overpowering. Instead, it leans into something airy—like passing by blooming vines without stopping, just catching the fragrance as you move through it.
There’s a calmness to it. Not loud. Not sharp. Just gentle and present.
As It Burns
As the candle continues to burn, the scent begins to open up more.
It still stays in that softer floral category, but it gains a little more depth as time passes. It fills the space without taking it over, which changes how the room feels rather than how strongly it smells.
That distinction matters in candle making more than people realize.
A good candle doesn’t just scent a room—it shifts its atmosphere.
The Decision Stage
This is the part of the process where nothing is final.
Some scents are clear “yes”s from the start. Others need time, adjustment, or complete reworking before they ever become part of a collection.
Right now, this wisteria blend is still in that in-between space.
It has potential—but it’s not finished.
And that’s okay.
Not everything is meant to be rushed into release.
Why I Share This
I share these test burns because there’s a lot that happens before a candle ever reaches a shop shelf.
What you see later is the final version—but behind every scent is a process of testing, adjusting, and sometimes letting go of what doesn’t work.
This is one of those steps.
Quiet, unpolished, and honest.
Some scents become part of a collection.
Some never make it past this stage.
And some take time before they find their final form.
This one is still deciding what it wants to be.
